Hi all,
Will the front outer cv joint knock off the axle? I want to replace the boot without removing the whole axle if possible.

Thanks

Thanks for your replies.
I took a chance on the joint coming off and it did.
I held the shaft still with a pair of stilsons pushing towards the inner joint, with my foot on them. Then I pointed the cv spline end in the full down position and hit it a few times with a soft hammer on the bearing joint housing and to my surprise it came off the shaft complete with the ring that holds it on the shaft. I renewed the boot pushed the joint back on up to the split ring which I closed the ends of with a small knife and tapped the joint fully back on the shaft. It appears to be on properly. I will see what happens on the test drive.
The idea how to remove the joint was form eric the car guy on Youtube. The only difference was he removed the complete shaft and removed the joint with it held in a vice.
