Hey guys i'm thinking of swapping a 2grfe into my ae92, but i'm having a very very hard time finding an E153. My question is will it be worth it to find one, a year ago I rebuilt my s54 with a Quaife LSD and replaced some syncro's and worn gears. I may use the s54 for now, it just seems very difficult to find a FWD e153 and I can't find to much info on anyone's preference to the E53's. I don't drag race and I use my car mainly for hpde track events and autocross. However on the back of my mind I feel like why put an engine with good power in if I can't even abuse it without something breaking.
Also one big think that may make this swap hard is the amount of space I have, I know the 6th gen celica has way more room. I'm not to worried because cutting and welding isn't a problem. here's what I mean by my space issue. ![]() This post has been edited by rdyzz: Jan 18, 2015 - 3:38 AM |

ouch!!! that wiring loom was cut, in the most akward place. lots of wire to replace and shielded ones. cant tell if the vvt lines are rubber, or steel.
if you are the first one doing this swap on the ae92. Ive seen people adapting a s54 to this thing. Not sure if they have lasted. the torque on the engine, is very high. your biggest issue will be space, especially hood clearance. the beams in your pic is setting at same distance in firewall as it would sit on the celica. dont know how much space you have in the front. if i were you. I would get the ecu from RAV4 thats non immobilized, and the engine harness. Its a pain in the ass to extend 100 wires, and make it right. Id go back and get the right harness. and avoid the headache. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL
If you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Im alive, better post your questions in the thread below, maybe I log back in 2grfe Swapped... Why I chose the 2GR, before you ask read here... A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within. @llamaraxing in Instagram is the best way to find me. I hardly log here anymore. |

Id go back and get the right harness. and avoid the headache. I actually ordered a 2007 rav4 harness and none immobilized 2007 rav4 ecu. The engine is a 2010 from an avalon with 50k miles on it, I was able to source a e153 thanks to smaay and box. When I decided to do this swap I made sure I had the resolve to see it through. I didn't want to give up my rebuilt s54 but I didn't want a transmission that was not able to hold the power since when I track the car I drive it hard. I was able to mount the transmission to the engine today. I'll be tig welding a new cross-member and some mounts, I mocked up a fake engine out of steel bars and mounted it to the transmission to see where I need to move the transmission forward, back, up or down to get the most amount of room and still have decent axle angle. Its easier to work with just the weight of the transmission mounted to a steel bar frame, its pretty good cause it does give me a very clear idea or where its going to need to sit. I think im along the lines of what njccmd2002 said, this may be the last engine I do on this car so I wanted something that was a challenge. I enjoyed the beams cause to me it did have just the right amount of power to drive the car 10/10, but i wanted torque and power for street driving so thats why I decided this.
