Hi guys, im new to this forum and im kinda desperate. i have a 1995 Toyota Celica ST 7afe 5 speed with 219xxx miles.. my car has recently been misfiring randomly. i get no CEL. it will just idle fine one second misfire for a second and recover. its very sluggish. i lost about 75mpg per tank. and it jerks on accelleration.. im just looking to see if anyone else has had the same problem. i seem to think it is my distributor. i pulled the #1 wire from the distributer and watched the spark and it doesnt spark constantly. i also seem to think it could be my valve seal leaking oil on the spark plug causing it to miss. my valve seals have been going. if i let my car sit for a few days and start it up it smokes some. its been that way since ive bought the car but it never misfired. im about to make a video of it tonight. my budgets tight and im just trying to make sure that's what i need to replace so any help is appreciated. thanks, jake.

Generally the distributor will throw code 12? if I recall correctly when it starts to give issues. If it was the distributor or the coil you'd have a general misfire, though if one of the contacts on the cap is burnt that'd be the exception. It could be you need new plugs if they haven't been changed in awhile, also go with something like the NGK G-power platinum as platinum is more resistant to fouling. The 7A-FE is notorious for burning oil from stuck oil control rings as it is, so compounding the issue with leaking valve stem seals could just be too much for it to burn off. Though you should be having to top off oil every 500-1,000 or so miles if it's that bad.
