4AFE to 4AGE 20V swap Options

Hi all,

Could anyone point me to someone who has done such a swap? Even the 7AFE to 4AGE?

I need to know whether or not the 4AFE has the same sensors as the 4AGE 20V (knock sensor?) and are the FE headers ok to fit onto the GE until I get custom headers?

The FE and GE may share some sensors but I'd bet most will be different, not to mention the addition of the VVT solenoid on the Silvertop. The header may be interchangeable though, I can't say for certain. I'm not sure about the market in Ireland but the Corollas I've seen with a 4A-FE have an exhaust manifold, not a header, so a major downgrade from the GE's stock header (assuming you have stock exhaust and not an aftermarket header, of course.) The MR2 forums would certainly have better information regarding the 4A-GE than we do here, as it's never been as popular of a swap as the 3S-GTE.

I will recommend doing a search around our forum for 4A-GE swaps though. A word of warning- satisfied 4A-GE swappers are few and far between when it comes to Celicas. Most complain that the car is just too heavy for the engine. It may produce more power and more torque than a 7A but the 7A has a broader torque curve and more area under the curve, so it's much more willing to pull our cars. Some even consider the 4A a downgrade from the 7A. But I totally understand laws in different countries wouldn't allow an S-series swap into a car originally equipped with an A-series engine, or that a 4A is better suited for a purpose built Celica with a gutted interior that will spend most of its time at redline.
