Hi I have recently bought a 1996 celica gt4 st205, I have noticed that once you sit on traffic for a while or at low speeds the engine light comes on and you loose a fair bit of power when you next floor it, I did the on board diagnostics and it was 'code 54' which is the charge cooler system, I then noticed the sensor is not plugged into anything and the wires that should go into the connector and up into the sensor are sort of braided together and stuffed into an electrical sleeve, I can only think that is to trick the ECU into thinking it is full? as it would get the voltage straight back? (not sure on how the sensor works). I then read a few instructions on checking the coolant level by taking the charge cooler cap off and revving it, the coolant level did not drop at all it just sort of wobbled from the vibrations so I'm also guessing the pump is broken or not getting a signal.
So does anybody know if that braided wire is a common bodge or if there is a reason behind it? Or if anybody has any other insights to what the problem might be? |

just a tap of the pedal should activate the system, it should stop the pump if the car idles for more tthan 30 seconds or somthing like that, i dont know the exact time, since mine has always been wired to run full time.
