if i remove my cat will this trigger the check engine light to come on and if so can i reposition the 02 sensor so that it does not go on

Yeah, my car has no cat, and it smells just fine. A bit loud to the point where my interior panels have all rattled loose and I can't talk on a cell phone on the freeway, but no bad smell.
