Hey folks.

I have a UK 1996 GT 3G-SE Manual.

Today I started feeling a single front-end clunk when taking my foot off the clutch after a gear change.

Then, going downhill at about 40mph, foot off the gas the front end started juddering like one of the wheels was loose.

All of this goes away if I hold the clutch in.

Basically, the only time there are NO symptoms are when I'm either accelerating, coasting in neutral, or driving gently in 5th.

Any ideas?

Engine mount? Clutch bearing?

Extra info... There's no over-revving in 5th, so I don't think it's a slipping problem.

Thanks. Lee.

UPDATE:

It was the wheel bearing, plus a loose axle nut, plus a bad drive flange in the hub.

Either, the loose nut messed up the bearing or the loose bearing loosened the nut.

I've decided this is the time to start upgrading everything though. I've done the ball joints, tie rod ends, drop links, bushings, struts and mounts. Just gotta do the back now!
