Im putting together a complete reference to a 3sgte engine swap from a 7afe or 5sfe, I gathered almost all the information I put into it on the net... anyone feel like correcting or adding other necessary info?

1. Who actually rebuilds there engine before they swap?? Im planning on doing the swap myself when I get a celica and if i can eliminate things like a 1000 dollar rebuild kit then that would be great.
2. What about ecu? Do you have to find a 3sgte ecu? Do they tend to come with the engine?? 3. So aside from custom down pipe and wiring harness everything else while recommended is still optional? 4. The list of parts where it says "yes" "no" "recommended", Im assuming yes means you have to purchase that part? I thought you needed mr2 axles? or is that just because they are more rigid? or because they are needed for the e153 tranny? 5. Using the S54 tranny what clutch/flywheel combo will you use? Does the 5sfe stuff fit or do you use the 3sgte parts? 6. What are the difference in gear ratios between the e153 and s54 trannies? 7. For the people who did the swap who is using there 5sfe tranny? EDIT: Found this info about using the e135 tranny. My gt tranny is holding up fine on the swap. My 3rd gear syncro is jacked up. As far as power goes it's perfectly fine at 200 to the wheels. We'll see what happens when I turn up the boost, I'm sure it will be fine. I'm worried about launching at the track with slicks and gt axles. I think the mr2 lsd tranny is a little over $1400 for the whole swap. Mr2 tranny $900 Mr2 axles $150 St185 axles $150 Mr2 Clutch disc $120 Shift linkage $150 you use the inner halfshafts from one set and the outer halfshafts from the other to make custom axels. if i remember correctly, the celica axles fit into the wheel hubs, but not the transmission...and the mr2 axles fit into the tranny, but not the wheel hubs. so, you use the mr2 inner halfshafts and celica outer halfshafts to make an axle that fits both This post has been edited by Uppitycracker: Apr 3, 2004 - 11:23 PM |
