First, has any one done this, or do they just go right to the 3s-gte?? also, gt tranny will bolt right up, but i was told, or read that it wont handle that much power?? its only 177 hp, an 150 trq? is that to the wheel or crank? also what else would i need besides gt engine mounts?? Thanks
also does any one know where else, i could locate, a harness an comp?? This post has been edited by Digndoug: Apr 12, 2004 - 2:38 PM |

It's not necesarily cheaper... in fact... it might be more expensive. As far as the swap goes... it's not very different from the 3SGTE swap. It'll be a bit easier, cause you'll have to source less parts, conisdering you can use the exsiting tranny (if it came with one) and motor mounts on an AT chassi... etc... but the clips are not easy to get. I talked to Jarco last year and they said they *might* be able to find me a front cut from an ST202... but they also said, they've never dealt with that chassi, so it's not certain... and if they could get it, it'll be expensive, around 4,000 or more. I also asked Venus auto about that, and they simply said, they can't get an entire clip either. It's not a high demand cut, so it'll be hard to find a car in Japan, or elsewhere even... but the Venus guys did say they could probably get the longblock and tranny with a partial harness and ECU for a fair price. All in all... it's not a matter of whether it's a good engine or anything... it's supply and demand. Toyota import tuner people usually take the easy way out and just go with a well documented swap, like a 3SGTE, which has more power potential anyways... instead of taking a weaker, non-turboed motor such as the 3SGE. I'd personally go n/a with the 3SGE over the 3SGTE any day in a FWD platform... but that's just me. As far as the Beams guy on Celica.net... he got his cut from a JDM importer in Canada. I believe it may have been one of the 2 Beams motors that were listed on eBay a while ago. Anyways.... the Beams is a completely different animal in terms of wiring. It's completely different from all of the other versions, and IMO... that guy will probably give up before he even gets close to figuring out all of those wires (repinned ECU connectors, DLI wiring set-up, VVTi wiring set-up, just to name a few custom jobs to be handled)... unless he's really dedicated and smart, or he has a VERY VERY RARE wiring manuals for the Beams 3SGE. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl...
