I've been looking around for info about the 20 valve silver top, like what coomer has. I was thinking that he said it was a rated 140 horespower motor, but everywhere I look I keep seeing the number 160 pop up. I thought that was what the 4agze motor was rated(160hp). I checked club4ag and got even more confused. I had no idea how many different 4age's there are. I didn't even think the black top was rated at 160hp?

dyno proven mk1 mr2 with silvertop 20V and c52 tranny had 120.9hp at the rear wheels

the blacktop was "170hp" and is much more of a beast of an engine than the silvertop is.... i believe the blacktop has higher compression, lighter internals (more of a n/a motor) and is MAP based rather than the silvertop's AFM harness....

the 4a-gze.... the early/US versions were 145hp at ~7psi... the later versions (including the DIS/map version) was 165hp around 12psi....

there are many variations of the 4age:

bluetop bigport: 16V, 115hp T-VIS - ae86 GTS, ae82 GTS, and mk1 mr2
redtop bigport: 16V, 112hp T-VIS - early ae92 GTS and mk1 mr2
redtop smallport: 16V, 130hp, non t-vis (higher compression... japan version of this was MAP based and 140hp), later ae92 GTS
silvertop: 20V VVT "160hp" - ae101 (japan only) levin/trueno
blacktop: 20V VVT(i?) map based "170hp" - ae111 trueno

early 4a-gze: 16V T-VIS 145hp ~6psi mk1 mr2 supercharged, early ae92 GTZ (japan only)
later 4a-gze: 16V non t-vis, map based, 10-12psi 165hp later ae92 and early ae101 GTZs (japan only)

(all above info is from my head.... not somewhere else.... many places online have wrong numbers)

I'm pretty sure the black top 4A-GE was rated at 165 horsepower @ 7,800 RPM. That's what I've read everywhere. wink.gif
