Is it possible to get around the 200hp mark with a 5S-FE engine? or would it be smarter and cheaper just to go with a 3sgte? Im asking because in wake county, nc where i live, emissions are really strict, and the pass no cars w/ not stock engines. And if i did do a swap, would this engine be fine.
http://www.totaljdm.com/index.cfm The engine is under engines, then Toyota, the Celica. BTW: im in a mechinics program, and when im out of high school (im a junior) im going to UTI. And i know basic about engines, but i've never done a swap, but me and my dad would prolly try it in our garage, and my neighbors a mech. and i could ask him to kind of point us in the right direction. There are NEVER certain numbers when it comes to really building an n/a motor. Camshaft profile (lift/duration), compression, amougst many many other things matter. You can't just say 10hp for this, 5hp from that. A poorly tuned motor can make as little as 10-20 hp over the stock ratings, while a well tuned one can make much much more. There's too much to consider to even make a guess at the numbers... unless you have a lot of experience building n/a 5SFE's... and even still, one can only guess. As for the 7AFE... been there, done that... not very pleased overall. I'm not gonna say it doesn't have n/a potential, since n/a potential extends as far as one's wallet... but it does have a few good points because its pistons are interchangeable with 7 rib 4A components (20mm wrist, size, etc...) That being said, increasing compression into the 11's or 12's shouldn't be too difficult with the 7AFE... but the head and valvetrain will need work to benifit from those gains. Likewise... refer to above info on building up an n/a motor. Also... the stock ECU won't cut it... stock flow, unfourtunately, might not cut it either for high-powered n/a applications... taking into account a 4AG head won't make past 270+ hp... so the 7AFE head will probably start lagging quite a bit before then. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl...
