I have a
1999 Celica with 4 6.5" speakers and the little tweeter in the door. I am pretty sure there is only one factory amp in the console. For some mysterious reason, the rear speakers are only getting about 1/4 the power of the front speakers, and very little bass. I replaced all 6.5 inch speakers with JL audio, and replaced the head unit with a pioneer mp3 player. Still, the problem persists. I have double checked the head unit installation, and all seems to be fine. Is it possible the factory amp only partially crapped out on the rear speakers? If so, what should i replace it with? I don't need anything fancy. The front 4 speakers sound great. I'd just like the rear speakers to sound as good. Should I (could I) just bypass it? Any help/hints you could offer would be greatly appreciated, as I am getting quite frustrated! Thank you in advance, Joy |

Not to change the subject, but isn't there a 2nd factory amp under the drivers seat for the woofers? My 97 shop manual shows 2 factory amps (for the cars that had separate amps). one in the console and one under the drivers seat. as a matter of fact, Mine has a box on the floor under the drivers seat. I'm trying to figure out if I'm even using them, as there are 2 stock connectors in the dash, My Alpine was connected to the ones with 2 plugs, but there is a 2nd stereo connector which fits the other type unit with separate amps and a single large connection on the back. The stock unit I had fits the single connector, but wont power up, I bought a stock unit with CD and cassette, it has the heat sink on the back, so I believe it is the unit with the integrated amp. it also connected to the dual plug setup where the alpine was. Anybody know for sure which connector is which? Or what I need to do to get it to work? I'd really like to use the other factory unit as it also has the anti-theft in it.
EDIT: Well, took a closer look, the box under my drivers seat is for the security system...found the page with component locations, shows both reg and woofer amps located in console, woofer amp farther back on left side. EDIT,Edit, : Never mind, the Woofers would be in the doors if you had the 8 speaker factory option, the woofer amp would be connected to the main amp on a 3rd connector, there are several different amp part numbers on the parts microfiche, so you would have to have the correct one,,,. Also, anyone know exactly what the "diversity antenna" option was, mine seems to have it, but there is no where to hook up the 2nd coax, the original radio had 2 coax connectors on the back. the parts fiche shows like 3 diff antennas, normal power one and what looks like 2 others in the bodywork...cant find any mention of it in the shop manual This post has been edited by 97GTinKC: Jul 11, 2004 - 11:53 AM |
