Yesterday as I was driving home, a really bad metallic rattling noise started coming from the tranny, and I have a feeling that something broke off or a bolt came loose inside the tranny. The constant chattering noise at idle from what I suspect is a bad throw-out bearing or a loose pressure plate or flywheel is also worse than ever. So before I can drive the car again, I need to pull off the tranny and see what's up. It still drives fine(aside from grinding going into first and reverse...but that's hydraulic-related), but I'm deathly afraid of an exploding flywheel.
![]() I figure that while I'm doing this, I'll replace the lightweight flywheel with my OEM AE101 flywheel, because I hate the lightweight unit...it's far too light for street use. Because I used a 200mm flywheel for an AE86, and the AE101 OEM flywheel is 212mm, I also need a new clutch, so I'm going to get an Exedy OEM-spec clutch kit eventually, if I can ever get my debts paid off. ![]() I read Sev's how-to on how to pull out the tranny, and assuming I can find tools somewhere to do this, I'm hoping to have the tranny off tonight. Do you guys have any tips on how to change a clutch? -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Be sure to remove all oil from the flywheel, with a solvent like brake clean. And if you are putting an old flywheel in, get it resurfased.
