Toyota gonna release the 8th gen Celica in 2006, the toppest model in the line is a 250hp with 2AZ-GTE engine GT-4.
The concept car had already been showed in Australia auto show before. For me, I don't think that is a good hp for 8th generation Celica, because of Japan has already cut off the limited 280hp rule, there are so many car manufacturers gonna release their flag-ship's car in about 320-350hp later, such as EVO IX is about 320hp, WRX Sti should be 330hp, and also Nissian S16 is 280hp. As a result, the lastest Celica should have at least 300hp in my mind!! Do u guys agree with it?? |

There may well be an 8th generation Celica (read as: damn well better be *waving fist in the air*), even if its release will be limited to certain territories (I suppose there are always grey imports...?) As for a 250bhp claim for a GT-Four-esque variant that is plenty. A little higher would be nice to show that it's actually progressing beyond the ST-205, but still plenty. Take it too much higher and you're cramping any future Supra's style. Assuming that either a new Celica or Supra will come to pass of course...
Going back to the "Celica/MR2/Toyota are doomed" threads well, I have faith in Toyota. I don't think they'll make a mess of things. Not after all these years of making a name for themselves in the performance car sector. There'll be something to fill the void when the 7GC and MR2 Roadster (MR-S) eventually bow out, it will just be an added bonus (for me at least) if it happens to have a Celica, MR2 or Supra badge on it. But if the worst does come to the worst, nothing can ever take away from the greatness of some of the cars they've given to us over the years...your AW11s, MA70s, ST-185s and 205s, ZZT231s, SW20s, JZA80s and many more besides. They're among my favourite cars and that probably isn't about to change regardless of what Toyota is doing now. As for the future, we're just gonna have to wait and see rather than wildly speculating. We probably won't get it right anyway. Currently accumulating funds for: a black Celica GT (almost there!) |
