Like the title, what do you use? I went from 10w-30, up to a 15w-50 for my last one, and it made me sick when i started it up and started driving it, so laggy, i hated it. Next change will be right to what the oil cap says on it, 5W-30. And of course, synthetic, i don't put normal mortor oil or mix's in my car.

QUOTE (celicaracer18 @ Sep 7, 2004 - 12:20 PM)
i thought it has to do with your location as to what grade is best for your car, i live in the south (MS), and everyone is telling me to def. not use synthetic, cuz it will tear up your engine, i don't understand this and think they are all hicks and don't know hat they are talking about, my dad has always used 10w 30, but my car will be used for racing and have no idea what oil to use, and how often to i change it, i know its normally evry 3000 or 3 months, but i have heard to change it about every 1500 if it is being raced, and as far as when you first put in a motor, how often do you change it, it is a rebuilt motor, someone here told me to just wait till I finish breaking it in (going easy on it till 2500 miles) and then change it fo the first time, but a friend said he changed his like every 500 to 1000 miles until it was broke in with his new engine, he says if you don't it will tear up your engine faster

thanks for any help with the matter

temperature effects which oil weight you should use. hotter ambient temps should use a thicker oil, as it will not breakdown as fast, as colder temps use a thinner oil. Synthetic/regular I dont see as "tearing up ur motor" that doesnt make any sense. Synthetic oil is a more durable oil, doesnt break down as quickly as natural.
