what if you took the late model 3S-GE top end (with VVT-i) and put in on the 3S-GTE?

would you have toyota reliability on a turbo motor with VVT-i?

or am i just an idiot and there is an obvious reason it won't work.

If you check out any race vehicle from honda or toyota, you'll see that neither of them have vtec or VVTi. Regardless of turbo or NA. More aggressive cams don't have variable valve timing. Turbo charging a car with vtec or VVTi, won't reach full potential because the cams have too much overlap.

VTEC and VVTL-i are not designed for race. They are designed to make "STREETABLE" horsepower. Of course, it would only make sense that their non-street race engines don't need to be cluttered with VTEC or VVTL-i. Agressive cam profiles can make a lot of power with good tuning on a Turbo car.
