im venturing into getting an LCD monitor for christmas, i just dont know what too much to look for... so far the one im looking at is this one becuase i can get it for $320...

now i know the response time of 12ms is good, but i dont know what a good dot pitch, brightness or contrast ratio is.... so if anyone knows anything about this stuff lemme know....

That unit has good contrast ration: the higher the better for the x:1 and 600:1 is good. The lowest dot pitch is .25 and the lower the better so that good too. It should serve you well. Get some good component cable, monster power is always best. & DVD w/ progressive scan and you'll have a super clear picture. Not sure of the brightness, i'll ask about that tom. at work and see whats a good level or not.
