i know most people say 3S-GTE because it was made for power...
but just think w/ me for a sec Cost to swap 3S-GTE into a GT: ~$3000(yes i said $3000) Mods for 5S-FE: Camshaft Regrings $500, Guaranteed 30hp(WebCams) Custom Turbo Kit $1200 Spearco Intercooler $1000 that right there should put you right at, if not over the 3S-GTE's horsepower. then an ECU programming would be in line, along with possible lowering of compression and all... just food for thought. any suggestions why the 5S-FE is a bad idea? -------------------- |

there is a guy who has 500hp on a 5S-FE
i remember just doing a search and coming upon the website before. yes there is a higher compression so you can't run as high of a boost but to get the 250hp you spoke of, you do not have to run 15PSI the biggest change for the 5S-FE (according the NA MR2 owners) are the WebCam Camshaft Regrinds... They gurantee at least 30 hp... that puts up to 165...plus 45 from burien turbo...plus ~30? from a good intercooler...that's 240 at 7-9PSI. and i'm not talking about overall outcome, i'm talking practical. i don't think anyone here is going to put 20G's under their car's hood. i was just thinking that the 5S-FE can be made into the 5S-GTE/FTE and be just as good as a 3S-GTE for the same price... if you ever wanted to keep going, it's not as hard to source parts for it, not JDM. and Rod Millen has the forged pistons just waiting.... Does anyone have idea on it other than the 'final outcome' of the two engines. -------------------- |
