So I was coming home from work on saturday and there is a one lane mountain road that I use to get there.I take it all the time to go hom and out of nowere a 240 pulls up on my butt. so I hit the gas and so did he (it has been a while!). the road consistes of 6 back to back hairpin curves towards the end. when we hit those I said oh no I am finally going to see how good these cars are in the coners( I had not seen them in person). so I go in as fast as the celi will let me into the first turns. and the 240 gets on the side of me and I am like oh s**t he is going to pass me but infact he brakes before I do and I see him ( from my rear view!) taking the turns like a newbie and I lose him. then he catchs up to me and we end up talking at the gas station at the end of the road(me and him had no gas). anyway to get to the point he tells me he is into drifting and that he one of the best aound my are. here I am with a st front wheel drive and bald tires and I out handled a tune 240 with what looked like some who knew what he was doing(I tested his knowlege of course. I know I am not that good hell I need more pratice on moutain type raods but to me I should have been left in the dust don't you think? or is the 240 over hiped.

A 240sx will out handle a USDM Celica... S13's handle great but have understeer tendancies at higher speeds similar to FF cars. S14's will kill Celicas. They are a bit heavier... but are very well balanced and are pretty neutral at higher speeds. Also... the FR layout has very distinct advantages in tight cornering situations cause they can simply power through things while FF cars typically experience understeer when punching the gas through a corner. Umm... IMO, the Celica is a "good" handling car. It's not "great" by today's standards. Standards are simply improving too much. The old DC2 Integras are "good" handling cars, "great" compared to 5th/6th gen MacPhearson Celicas. The New DC5 RSX-S are "great" handling cars as far as FF cars go as is the 7th gen Celica GTS. Miatas are great... Truenos are good... S2000s are great... S13 240's are good, S14 240's are good/great... MR2's are all great but the 2nd gen has a very high learning curve because of the weight and the torque.
Too many vairables... but yeah. A 240 will probably out handle a Celica based on power and drivetrain configuration in tight corners. I personally think Celicas are only good handling cars. The Super Strut versions, although I've never driven one... can be considered the "great" counterpart. IMO... they guy you raced through the canyons... probably doesn't know how to drive. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
1995 AT200 Celica ST: stocked out daily driver... 1984 AE86 Corolla GT-SR5: silvertop 20V 4AGE project car jacked up with goodies... 1991 SW2x MR2 n/a: bare bones hardtop model soon to be... |
