I've yet to find a Jeet Kune Do studio. I'm kind of mad about that one because from what I see, I'd rather learn that than most other arts. I agree with you that it shouldn't be a 'style.' But they all have. And futhermore, TKD has broke down to 'sport.' Kindof sucks. Now its all about flash instead of art.

QUOTE(Ryu3x16 @ Dec 14, 2004 - 5:19 AM) well....whatever you guys say ... I took jeet kune do classes therefore I study jeet kune do... go complain to the teachers or something It's not meant as any sort of challenge... Jeet Kune Do schools go against everything Bruce Lee ever taught. The idea alone of an organized school teaching "how to fight Jeet Kune Do style" should not be associated with anything Bruce Lee. I'm not saying Jeet Kune Do schools are bad or anything... it's just a little disappointhing that people don't accept his teachings for what they are... but instead want to distort it for their own little gains. Jeet Kune Do... in its essence, is self realization and self study. How anyone can claim to teach a person about themselves, then teach that person what is best to fully utilize their weapons... is beyond me. To quote something that is of a similar case, Bob and Tom said: religion is like that game telephone. God originally whispered, "Love everyone" and by the time it reaches the end, all that can be interpreted is "don't let fags marry." I highly doubt modern day Jeet Kune Do is what Bruce Lee meant it to be. As for my martial arts background... if there's one thing I can consider myself very good at, it's martial arts. Between cars, art, writing, philosophy, and Martial arts... I'd say I far exceed in martial arts compared to the other stuff i like to do. I breathe and I live martial arts. I don't do "style"... instead, I adapt to whatever. I fight the way I fight. It's not flawless, but I can fight, adapt to my opponent, and counter. My brothers and I are all trained in the arts and we've all been full-contact sparring for the past several years on a mostly consistent basis. Nothing teaches better than live combat. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

oh god, how I’ve been wanting someone else to say that. I've been thinking that the only way to learn, the only way to know someone else is by their fighting technique. I try to indulge myself in all kinds of 'styles' when I find the right places. Just like Mr. Lee himself, I think a combination is right. Judos grappling, Kenpos flow and strikes, with TKD flexibility helps my fights considerably. I use everything I know to adapt. If I were a rigid TKD man, a Judo master would kill me. Thus adaptation is a key role to winning matches and learning. Around where I live there aren’t to many martial artists around. I get to spar far and few between. John Crystal (TKD master black) hosts a tournament each October. I get to go to that, and that’s about it. Its a 2-round 3 minute match until the finals which is 3-round 5 minute match. I've won each time, but I wish I could do more. Wisconsin hosts the Badger state games each year as well. However I don’t go there because they suck. Its point-break. For those who don’t know, that is when you hit your opponent, judge stops the match and resets the players. I lose badly in these matches. I'm a counter fighter. I watch how nervous, anxious, flawless, cautious my opponent is when he strikes. Once determined, I counter and have yet to lose. Point-break ... well he strikes, hits my shoulder, reset match. I cant counter, I cant learn, we cant do anything except slap each other like wussies for 3 minutes. Pointless IMO. Wow, I’m ranting. I'll stop now, but Kwanza got me all excited with the last thing he said in his post. -Ti EDIT: I'd suggest martial arts to everyone, girl and guy, old and young. It doesn't just teach you to fight, but teaches your mind. You think faster, plan quicker, and overall everything you do in life is somewhat improved. When I find a dojo, I grab it and sink myself til I feel I need something else. In this life, you can never stop learning. This post has been edited by turboinduction: Dec 14, 2004 - 6:37 PM |
