I'm sure by now you have probably heard about the tsunami that hit Asia. That's just insane. It's hard to even imagine 20 ft. waves crashing on the shore. . . Last I heard, the death count is up to 8,000 in six different countries. I just happen to check my email today and saw that and couldn't believe it. For those of you who don't really know how tsunamis work here's a quick synopsis. They are caused by earthquackes on the ocean floor. There was one that was an 8.9, the largest in 40 years. Just like dropping a rock in the center of water, it causes ripples. Those then turn into waves that hit the shore. Larger the earthquake, larger the ripples. When it first comes to shore, the shore line will draw in significantly, then the waves hit and brings the shore in. That's really the only warning that people get. It's a sad thing to see happen and definately one of the worst natural disasters.

I'm a big fan of Asian culture. It perhaps may be something that I want to major in college. When I first saw it this morning at 7,000 people, I was horrified. I immediately thought it hit Japan, Korea, China, that area. . . Instead it was further down, where populations are still dense. It just makes me want to do something about it to help them. Man. . I just have sort of that helpless feeling. Say if there were relief help workers that were going over there, and they asked me to go, I probably would take them up on that. . . I don't know. . . I just feel I the need to help those people in some way.
