I'm just curious as to if anyone's car has or had "Shady Mechanic Work" on their car when they got it. You know...stuff just done to get it done, but not done right.

My purple Celica that I'm parting out definitely fits this. Just the other day I pulled off the door panels so that I could pull off the mirrors. When I pulled off the passenger side door panel, I found a 8" no-name speaker(Remember, this is a non-power options car with 6.5" speakers from the factory) screwed directly into the metal with wood screws. And the other side of the car has the stock 6.5" speaker in the plastic mounting bracket.

When I pulled out the Sony cd player(It was broken, but that should be assumed with Sony.), the stock stereo harness was hacked off and the CD player's wires were just connected directly to the stock wires. Soldered? Nope. Crimped? Nope. Twisted and taped with masking tape? Yes.

When I was pulling out the glove box, I wondered why it wasn't coming out after removing all the factory screws. Turns out the previous owner put two extra sheetmetal screws in the side of it closest to the door.

Also, one of the factory bolts on the passenger seat was replaced with a drilled hole in the rail, a sheetmetal screw, and a big washer. There's an old, old, old siren in the engine bay and a little LED light under the dimmer switch, but the wires just connect to each other with a wire crimp. confused.gif

I would be so mad if I'd bought a nice car and found stuff like this. But the purple Celi is only a parts car, so it's all good. Still, the previous owner/bodyshop/whoever should be locked up for Celica abuse(and painting the car purple.) tongue.gif

My yellow Celica had the stereo harness hacked off by my friend before I knew anything and let him install my stereo. Since then though, I found a junkyard Toyota, cut the stereo harness, and soldered it back on, and now my stereo is installed correctly. My mechanic lost one of my upper radiator brackets, so we had to make a custom one that was ugly, but now it's replaced with one from the purple Celica.

Anyone else experienced this with their Celica?

Edited for John. tongue.gif
