just decided to post some info on the celica..........dont know if anyone else knows this, so sorry for the boring droll of this post.......
found out why the gt-4's production ended, and why it was never shipped stateside.......well simply put, it was too powerful stock. when toyota made this car, they really broke restriction in japan, that stated no car over 245hp can be produced ( if it fits into the category of a commuter car) actually nissan and honda both broke the same rules with a few cars that they produced...aka skyline. But the good thing is, toyota tried to redeem itself from that, by producing the engines of the 6th gen celica, and off-gen curren........., they werent as powerfulm but gave toyota a chance to produce good cars, at a consumers level....( oh and by the way the gt-4 stock killed stock skylines in terms of speed and horse power) here is a link toassure yall of the gt-4's power just in case you didnt know.......only car really faster than this made by toyota, was a late model corolla. not on the link though......... http://www.japanesesportcars.com/engines/ dand i had some other websites but i guess ill have to find them and repost later on..........well peace, and see yalls later |

There is an article in this month's car and driver that talks about the "unofficial" power cap that the japanese companies had until this year. Chobis is correct that it was 300hp. I dont remember the article fully but it only applied to some cars....possibly FF applications? I know cars like the Skyline and Supra didn't count....
