OK, to all the car stereo geniuses,

I got myself 2 jl audio 12w7's. biggrin.gif I need an amp to push them. The problem is the subs are 3 ohms a piece. I know if you hook them up a certain way you can drop the ohms. Which way is it? Would it drop it to 1.5 ohms?

Im looking at getting an audiobahn a1500hct amp, it has
2000 watts @ 1 ohm
1000 watts @ 2 ohm
500 watts @ 4 ohm

It is a high current flow amp also. Will that automatically detect the ohms that the subs are running? And if it does, would it make it run at 1500 watts since its in the middle of 1 and 2 ohms?

Any help would be highly appreciated. Also, im currently in kuwait finishing my year term being deployed. Otherwise if i was home id go to a local installer and ask. Thanks alot to all that reply.

Don't bother with adiobahn. JL amps are great. They have a constant power rating and are 1 ohm stable. That would be my personal preference. You'll want to wire the subs in parralel in order to drop the resistance to 1.5 ohms otherwise you'll wire them in series and end up with a 6 ohm load.

Parralel:
all negative speaker wires are connected to the negative terminal of the amp.
all positive speaker wires are connected to the positive terminal of the amp.
End result: 1.5 Ohms

Series:
Positive lead from first sub connected to positive terminal on amp, then the negeative lead from the first sub will be wired to the positive lead of the second sub then the negative lead from the 2nd sub will connect to the negative terminal of the amp.
End result: 6 Ohms

EDIT:
JL Audio has a great tutorial about speaker wiring.
