There are alot of people (in these forums + other places) that dont really understand what a air intake is suppposed to do!

They simply go for the whole $250+ "fast looking" intake that "guarantees" tongue.gif
10 000kw at the front wheels!

There is simply no need to spend more than around $65-$80 of which i recommend most of that cash goes into a good filter (some suggestions are...
Jackson Racing, Apexi, JAKS. all these three brands were tried and tested and the Jackson racing one cost $45 (AUS) and gave the BEST resuts even as a short ram on to the stock rubber piping!

And now to the Short RAM vs. the Cold Air Intake debate!
This depends on what your needs and prefrences are.
but put simply for more POWER the CAI is better
for better SOUND the CAI is better
for hassle free INSTALLATION the Short RAM is bettter
for a cleaner filter and less MAITNANCE the Short RAM is better

now lets remember that COLD air is much more DENSER than warm/hot air
and COLD air is many times more COMBUSTABLE than warm/hot air

now you do the math and its simple cold air+good fuel+good spark (ignition) gives the most power!

POST your replys, questions, problems, answers, anything to do with the air intake

1st off in a 6th gen celica a SHORT RAM is USELESS for the most part
if you look even if you leave the stock airbox piping in the fender there
the SHORT RAM sucks in more ENGINE TEMP air then colder air
this HURTS the performance since the stock box is CLOSED and gets cold air

SHORT RAM=bad on 6gc celica

CAI
now this is THE BEST ROUTE
physics
1)when temperature of any thing rises molecules accelerate/move faster and faster creating thin air
hot air = bad aka "THIN AIR"
2)when you lower temperatures molecules slow down and get denser because of the less traveling room between molecules needed
COLD = good "thick air"

that proves CAI > Short ram

point 3 if you locate your filter in the front of the car preforably in the stock fog light hole or in case of a vader kit on the DRIVER side most front vent
this Automatically creates the BEST cold air for your car since the air is forcing it self anywere from 0-120 mph onto your vehical
this cold air will then hit the filter that is right behind the fog light hole or what not and create a higher intake pressure (since the air is being "shoved" into the intake piping
this gets more air to the engine FASTER and DENSER
DENSER = BIIIIIG BOOOOM
less dense = lil boom

oh and as for water
AEM makes a by-pass valve this is for when your filter is FULLY SUBMERGED not partially submerged
this filter is made of a material that allows the intake to get air from it when the main filter is blocked off by water
but how many times have you been 2 feet high water driving?
