When getting a 3sgte, especially a clip that will come with the awd tranny most of the time, swappers often have to get a transmission for their car, but I feel that this step is often overlooked a lot. As far as I know there is the camry tranny, the gt tranny, and the mr2 tranny, with or without lsd. (I think they are all the e153?)But, all of these trannys are not equal in gear ratios. The ratios in a transmission really decide how the power gets from the engine to the wheels. So the question is, which transmission will get you the fastest time in, say, a quarter mile? which has the fast accelleration in lower ranges? upper ranges?

Also, what are the advantages of a lsd? I know theses are kind of nub questions, but I can't find anything.

Thanks

You can use a 5s tranny (Camry, GT, or MR2 n/a) you can use the MR2 turbo tranny (E-153) and it requires modification to work (convert to FWD & hybrid axles) you can use the Solara V6 tranny.

The gear ratios are NOT the same. The E153 has longer ratios which are intended for the 3sgte, the S-54 (5s trannies) have shorter ratios to utilize better acceleration with the less power. You will have a lower top end with the S54 but you will get there quicker than the E153 however the tranny is not as good. The LSD is a good addition to the E153 but not a necessity. It allows power to go equally to the front wheels helping decrease wheel spin which helps acceleration and it also helps in cornering. I would probably say that the GT tranny will get you a slightly faster 1/4 mile time, but its probably negligable.
