Lately my tranny has been making noise. When the car is in neutral with the clutch pedal out, the car will often make a sort of soft repetitive clacking noise. If I let off the clutch pedal very softly however, the noise is much quieter. And the noise disappears when I push in the clutch or when I am in gear.
Does this sound like a problem involving the throwout bearing? I had this problem before, so we replaced the throwout bearing when I put in a new clutch, and now I've got the same problem again. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Whenever I think of clacking noises, I think of noisy valves or a loose timing belt. Have you tried listening to it in the engine bay while someone else works the pedals?

My VVT pulley makes a little bit of noise though. But the noise I'm talking about is definitely coming from the tranny area. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...
