Scion Xa and Starlet motors, Can they be swapped? Options

K the first thing i dont wanna see is, "ANYTHING CAN BE DONE WITH MONEY" Yes we all know that. Sorry just had to throw that in there.

Anyway, now to the subject at hand. From what i know the Scion Xa is more of a Economical car made for high gas mileage and not very popular performance wise. The Starlet on the other hand is a mini beast, correct? A 1.6l turbo motor and light chassis. I think I've seen it in some kind of circuit/rally racing.

Well that being the case, what if someone were to blow their scion 1nz-fe motor and swap in a 4E-FTE startlet motor? How much work is this person looking at? Is it a simple drop in swap? What are the possibilites for this NEW TURBO SCION Xa TURBO

you would be surprised what will fit... 5th gen celica with a Lexus V8, 1st gen MR2 with a northstar motor...

Get a Hyabusa engine.

I personally would re-build what is in there and boost it. If you really want to swap in something else, you must look at this from a few different dimensions. :1. where is your honor, 2. boost or no? 3. what power/life ratio do you want?

As far as honor, no toyota engine that is 1.6ish ltr will be able to outperform say a... B16 honda engine. The technology is far greater, and the overall design in superior. Ask kwanza, he has experiance working with honda and toyota engines. he will saay the same thing.

Turbo is best for most people. You want your right foot to make the car go fast. It happens to the best of us, and a turbo will install the biggest smile on your face.

3, Turbo or NA you will need to look at streetability. You can have 2-300 whp for a while or less than that for a Long time. On NA you can have 12-13:1 compression, but it is going to be a pain to maintain.

I personally would just install the stock motor re-built and be happy with a neet little slow car.

Not from what i have seen on the quartermiles... toyotas black and silver top 4age's seem worthy adversaries to the hondas B16's and many cars with 20 valve swaps are more than capable of beating a civic type R stock for stock in the quartermile. The toyota vvt has come a long way and IMHO it stands up pretty well against the VTEC systems

When discussing the 1.6ltr engine, I was speaking of the 4ag's. I have never talked to anyone with a black top, but people I have discussed the silvertop with, well, the majority, have been less than pleased with the power result. I was talking to Kwanza the other day about the way Honda's B-series head was designed Vs the 4ag 16v, and even the 20v. The B-series is just better. Granted, things can be done to both, but the honda design is superior.

I give credit where credit is due. In the 80's and early 90's Toyota had better engines than hondas... but that was over rather quickly.

Now that Toyota has brought over the 2zzge, there is a real competitor on the market as far as Na 4 cylinders go. however, Honda once again uped the anty with the 2.0's.


I will agree that toyota is the top competitor as far a performance Na 4's though.
