> I am Confused, Why get V8's??

Like the title says, why get a mustang or camaro, firebird, etc. Unless it is like a 69 Camaro SS or something. I know a guy who works at a Chevy and Pontiac dealer. We argue like everyday about the corvette and new Pontiac GTO. They both have the 5.7 Liter V8 engine. It's like 350 Hp or something. What I don't get is why do people think that they have to have bigass mean sounding engines to get big power. I know that some of them can withhold boost by a super charger and nitrous. But I have only seen one stang that had a turbo. It was in a magazine. I guess what I don't get is why do they have bigass gas guzzling engines that produce mediocre horsepower when you can get a 2.0 Liter engine to produce more than twice of the amount that some V8's have?

Can someone explain this to me? I know that k2 works at some mustang performance place. Or maybe someone else. Maybe one of you guys can explain it to me.

Thanks

Edit: Everyone is concerned about emissions and gas usage then why do they continue to produce those cars. Honestly I know that some 4 bangers lose to V8's and V10's. But I have seen personally a Dodge Neon completly spank the shiat out of a Viper.

no replacement for displacement!!! Take that and carve it in stone...

exactly

but the way i put it is

in the end there is no replacement for displacement

sure there are a lot of high power stock i4's out there like the new lancer evo 8, 270hp

everything in a v8 is bigger and because of that everything is stronger and they can make insane amounts of power. the only time i have a problem with a v8 is when the guy is an asshole and when the asshole owns a chevy truck/suv. all those guys are jerks and they always claim chevy makes the highest quality stuff but yet the tranny is garanteed to die at around 150k, why? because the engines make too much power or is that an excuse for a porr tranny design?

i am a rare kind of person, i like all types of cars. i might hate individual cars and companies, but i like the idea of specialized cars. the little 4 banger imports are built for the curves, the highways are left to the camaros and stangs.

when ever someone makes fun of my car i really dont care. my friend with a 1998 5.0 sierra would make fun of my car when i first got it and made plans to mod it, he would say that there is no point and that since my TOYOTA had 64k miles it was too old to mod when he was planning to mod his truck with 100k miles because it is pointless to mod a i4 and no matter how old the v8 is it is worth it, and then his intake manifold gasket blew, and his injectors died, and alternator died, and master cylinder failed, fuel pump broke. after that truck cost him about $2500 in repairs he stopped saying a lot of things about my car. and oh yeah, he gets 10mpg as apposed to my 30mpg and guess what, my car is just as fast as his.

i respect the v8 potential, i just hate the owners of v8's. all engines are engineering marvels, all should be respected IF AND ONLY IF it is placed in the proper category, ie economy, performance, and work. unlike honda performance engines. they are called performance but if you have almost 2 times the amount of HP as Torque, i would hardly call that performance no matter how much faster the car is than mine.
