I have a GT 3S-GE engine in the car. I can say this for sure. In no way is it worth the money or the effort to either turbo the N/A engine or do a swap for a 3S-GTE engine.
You will gain maybe 30-40 bhp with the N/A-> Turbo with the problems of messing op the internals of the engine. Or you will have 70 bhp gain with the 3S-GTE engine. But still you need a stronger tranny and even then i think its to much horsepower for the front wheels to handle. Thats why the 3S-GTE engine is a 4wd(I know it was build for rally first) Unless you have a 1.8 ST Celica. But then u have to also change/modify the engine mounts etc etc. I Would say go for the GT4 then. I was thinking about turboing my GT also. But came to realise that my car already has sufficient power. That was the first thing i realised when i came here and read about the engine swaps. I first thought US GT also had the 3S-GE engine but they dont. Come to think of it. What are the spec of a US GT: in terms of Top Speed and 0-60 Specs of a Euro GT 0-60: 7.9 Seconds Top Speed: 225 km/h (about 140 mph) Specs of a GT4: 0-60: 6.1 Seconds Top Speed: 245km/h (about 153 mph) So TomPoz if you have a GT already. U will spend roughly about 5000-6000 on the modification to snap a speedo in 1.8 seconds faster. IFyou have traction on the Front Wheel Tires.
