just wondering, i have noticed that camry's come with a v6 but i also noticed that the camry was released with a 5sfe in it also that lays in the engine bay the same way that the engine sits in my celica. i was wondering if it is feasible to swap a v6 camry engine into a celica i figured it would work seeing as how one of the choice trannies for a 3sgte is a v6 camry tranny and that the stock tranny for a st204 fits also so i figure in theory that a v6 camry engine swap would work with my stock trany i guess i would just need mounts ecu and harness right? or would it be a more complicated swap than expected?

hey,
i have been doing toyota swaps for years and 1mz swap is very easy mechanically speaking ..the wiring will be the harder challenge but not that bad if you study wiring diagrams.. you just need 1mz 97-01 manual ecu if you plan to run stock or no turbo etc.. solara v6 or converted mr2 tranny gt or st205 tranny mounts modified intermediate shaft to work with v6 bearing carrier same axles are turbo swap camry rad or look for one with top hose on other side of car i could almost do a step by step on how 2 do it but just no time .. only 2 fab'ing issues will be rear header and pass side mount .. might have to use factory style set up for rear header or some cutting of rear subframe may be needed .. if you had a front cut off a solara or camry 5 speed it you could almost make a stock looking v6 celica .. one plus is wiring to ecu go in same area as camry so there should be no need to cut it it really is a easy swap for some one with more than just basic knowledge .. if i did one i would s/c and you would have a great sleeper w/ 280hp -------------------- Old guy with the toys

QUOTE(FORGMANN @ May 25, 2005 - 7:00 PM) hey, i have been doing toyota swaps for years and 1mz swap is very easy mechanically speaking ..the wiring will be the harder challenge but not that bad if you study wiring diagrams.. you just need 1mz 97-01 manual ecu if you plan to run stock or no turbo etc.. solara v6 or converted mr2 tranny gt or st205 tranny mounts modified intermediate shaft to work with v6 bearing carrier same axles are turbo swap camry rad or look for one with top hose on other side of car i could almost do a step by step on how 2 do it but just no time .. only 2 fab'ing issues will be rear header and pass side mount .. might have to use factory style set up for rear header or some cutting of rear subframe may be needed .. if you had a front cut off a solara or camry 5 speed it you could almost make a stock looking v6 celica .. one plus is wiring to ecu go in same area as camry so there should be no need to cut it it really is a easy swap for some one with more than just basic knowledge .. if i did one i would s/c and you would have a great sleeper w/ 280hp Yea that pretty much sums up the swap, but there is another little issue and that's the height of the motor once actually in the engine bay, i have yet to set a 7a/5s directly nexted to a 1m, but according to sbcelica i believe he once told me that the hood liked about a 1 1/2 inches (not 100%) closing. If that is the case then a gt-4 hood will clear it, with some washers. As far as everything else i don't believe it'll be as hard as a 3sgte swap, because as you said the wiring shouldn't be extremely difficult, and jegs has a radiator that will work and basically everything else is the same as a 3s swap. |
