Prevoius day Sunroof works fine

The next day i go to open it and i hear a grinding sound, sunroof doesnt open all the way.
Attempt to close it, odenst close all the way.
Now when i press butten it moves an inch and get a grinding sound.
Toyota mechanic and i manage to shut the roof by pressing butten and pushing glass.
Sunroof still makes same sound and moves up and down less than an inch.
took off panal where the controls are to see the manual operatoin.
when i press the butten to move the sunroof this spins, after the sunroof stops moving it keeps on spinning until i let go of butten. sound continues until buttne is released

mechanics and such have given me these likely problems.

stripped gear
sunroof off the track

the grinding noise i hear is between the sunroof and the front windshield.

i have never had a problem before with it. any ideas and comments are welcome. This is urgent so please everyone respond, i cant go letting water leakin my car.

Id rather not bring this to a shop becuase it will cost alot of money. But if thats what it takes, then i will

it does sound like a problem with the motor - the track could cause it to not get enough torque, etc.

When did you notice it, after you got back from a ride with it open?

I'd say clean the track, and pull the motor, make sure theres nothing fishy with it.
