Hello everyone, my name is dj. Im from Johnson City Tennessee, 17. I bought a 94 Gt about a month ago. 5 speed, blue, white racing stripe, intake, cd player, bassiclly stock. Well the car only had 107k when i picked it up, now having about 111k. The motor had just been rebuilt about a thosand miles before i got it. Well apparentlly in the rebuild process, which im guessing was done by toyota (because of remanufactuerd plauqe) they had a rev limiter installed to make sure break-in was comepleted, or to prolong life of the motor. Regardless now its broke in and i want it off. It sucks having to shift at 4k rpms, yup thats right, it cuts out at about 4,200 rpms. I dont think it is fuel related b/c the motor doesnt cut out at all, it bounces slowlly out of gear, in gear it sounds wierd, like it just bogs down, sometimes backfires. I dont know how to take it off because i dont know where its at or what it would involve. And no I cant just reset my ecu, ive tried. If anybody could give me some answers on that, that would be really cool. Also, there is a loud whineing noise when goin down tha road. Almost like I have huge nobby tires. The axle will pop sometimes when i turn but then go away for a while, idk if it has anything to do with that or not. I was lookin at the axle and there was a big washer lookin thing sliding around back and forth on my axle, i also saw alot of grease around the axle. Is that axle grease, and would that explain why it pops sometimes? If so, how would I fix that? Could i just put more grease in the axle?? I really appreciate any help u guys can give me. Thanks alot

I'd suggest you take it to a Toyota dealer. Preferably the one that did the rebuild. A 4200 rpm rev limiter is not normal.
"Also, there is a loud whineing noise when goin down tha road. Almost like I have huge nobby tires" Is it a whining noise or more of a rolling thud? Nobby tires wouldn't make a whining noise. If the axle pops when you turn, you more than likely have a bad cv joint. Check the boots around the cv's to see if they are torn. That would probably be where the axle grease is coming from. If it's torn, you need to replace it. hope that helps -Kaleb |
