ok i know they help the car handle better but do they help with the launch of the car? someone told me this today and i didnt believe them.

Uh no, unless you're launching the car sideways =].

Sway bars just reduce body roll, or lean, when cornering. Stiffer springs and struts might help launch by reducing weight transfer on a hard launch, and motor mounts can help in that regard too by reducing the twisting motion of the engine when the torque hits, but not sway bars.
