Check engine light came on. Ok so my car tells me it needs a new EGR valve. Anybody have good pics of it? toyota said 158 for a new one. Can i replace it myself? Does it just need to be cleaned? My car has 137k on it, lotsa buildup. My car still runs smooth. How imparitive is it that i get it replaced? I have emissions this month.

So your check engine light came and and you had someone check it?
The EGR valve is the circular disc that sits to the left of the throttle body attached to the back of the intake manifold. The pipe that connects underneath it runs like an L shape to the back of the motor. If you want to replace it you have to take out most of your intake and disconnect the pipe farther down (its a big nut in the 20 millimeter range). You will need to order the EGR valve, Gasket and the pipe that connects to the egr. You can disconnect the pipe right at the egr but it is easier if you do it farther down. *You dont have to buy the pipe if you dont want but it will save you alot of hassle* I broke a piece off mine trying to take of the pipe in a vice. Hope this helps sorry for no pics. |
