Im working on my car right now, and I got the 5sfe. I believe my timing belt broke because my rotor under the distrubutor cap does not spin when the motor is cranked. Is there a plug in the timing belt cover i can take off to see the belt? How do i get to it, remove the passenger wheel? What else do you recommend i change> water pump? anything else. Im still stranded since thursday!!! Thanks guys.

im screwed!!! its the timing belt, and i just spent 192 on a coil some plugs and wires. Not only that, but they sent me coils for the 7 not the 5. I looked under the timing belt cover, and pulled the broken belt out a little. The relief, is at least now i know what it is.

To my knowledge Toyota engines are non interference engines, and does not take damage from "running" with a broken timing belt.. I don't want to bet on it though. I just remember to have heard that somewhere.. Also, our old Camry broke down when the timing belt snapped.. Nothing else got damaged.. -------------------- |
