I'm doing a paper for school, and now I'm really getting into it. It's about animal rights. I'm doing my paper about hunting. I'd actually like some feedback on it to maybe give me some more ideas?
What is your stance on hunting? Do you think it's humane? Are animals more humane than humans? Animals kill other animals the same reasons humans do. I actually hope to get some feedback from those who like to hunt. Why do you hunt? For the joy of the kill, for the sport, for the food? I'm actually really interested. I'm a southern girl, so I'm obviously for hunting. But I think slaughterhouses are inhumane. It really strikes a nerve with me how animals are practically tortured to death. I think that slaughterhouses should be regulated more. I was watching Buster on PBS. Um, I'm a kindergarten teacher so I'm pretty much forced to watch what my kids watch. Anyway on there they had a pig on a farm that they took to a fair for a contest. They raised this pig it's whole life. After this contest, they give the pig to the slaughterhouse with no emotion at all. I don't know.. maybe I'm too attached to my pets.. but I would never raise an animal just to send it away to get killed and eaten. I understand it's common practice.. but I would just shatter me if I did that. Well, anyway what do you think? About hunting & slaughterhouses in general? -------------------- |

Obiviously shogunkid, You don't all of what your against. Being a hunter and a conservationlist, The national wild life federation thrives off the sale of Hunting/fishing tags and licenses. With the sell of these permits, tags, and licenses they get the needed funding for research, restocking of wild life, Diease treatments/tracking and Habbitat control and maintaning.
Being from eastern kentucky, Two of those key things are habitat control, maintaining and reintroduction of wildlife. From 1988 to 1998 the sale of hunting permits Alone provided enough money for reintroduction of several species of wild life that were at one time common here. Now I know your going to say they get funding form tax dollars etc etc, And they do but surprisenly not enough, Because with buying out land for reserves and relocation *in this point i'll use elk* one single animal on average cost 12-15000 dollars in 6 months for up keep. That is a lot of money when you average in the fact they brought in 200 elk in a two year span. An animal that would have been native to here, If the boom of the coal civilizations in the late 1800-early 1900's had not driven them to the brink of extintson(SP). Now Once they are here what you do with a herd of 500 breeding elk, Now i don't know if you've ever seen a elk but a full grown male is around 1000 pounds and can be over 5 feet tall at the shoulder. They honestly cause a lot of destruction to land, And if they ever got into a farmers crops nothing would be left after one night. SO this is where population control comes in, They need to be regulated so that we don't have 100's of thousands roaming around, Hitting a deer with you car is one thing, but hitting a elk would be like hitting another car. Also it's a known fact that diease in these animals runs rampant, If one gets something *lime diease was a huge killer in our location deer population a few years ago* within a couple months it spreads throughout the herds and they die horrible deaths. Me being a hunter and a conservationlist, I'd rather you know that not every hunter out there hunts for pure sport. Yes i do find enjoyment out of being in the woods, I usually spend 4-5 months out of the year scouting, tracking, and looking for deer *the only animal i hunt btw* for a weeks worth of hunting in the fall. I don't trophy hunt, although i do take older deers and usually they have larger antlers. This will be my 19th year hunting *i'm only 25 btw* and i've only killed 2 deers in those 19 years. Every hunter i know carries the same beliefs that i do, Although I know there are man who don't, But i honestly believe they'll be the ones who ruin it for the ones who actually care about all the things that go into hunting. If more people would educate themselves on boths sides of the agurement we wouldn't have 99% of the bull**** that goes on in country/world. Btw peta seriously needs a wake up call, Of all the peta members i've met their nothing more than psychopaths without the ability to clearly think on their motives. let's not stereotype. It's been covered in this very forum that extremists of any kind are morons, but that we cannot classify everyone in an organization based on the more vocal people who are likely to be morons. |
