Here's the situation: 67MPH on a 40MPH 2-lane one-way street. The cop was pointing a radar gun straight at me. He was real cool. He told me he'll give me a break. He didn't give me a ticket for wreckless driving, not having a seatbelt, illegal tints. Thank God. But I have an unlawful speed ticket to worry about. I just got a ticket about 2 months ago for the same thing. 60MPH on a 35MPH. Except this time, the cop WILL be in court and he said he has all his certs and everything for the radar gun. I told him I didn't realize how fast I was going because my cluster right now only reads in km/h since my original one was messed up and i'm fixing it. i don't know if that'll help me. He said he usually always wins the case and that he will again this time. So I'm saying I plead no contest and say I didn't know how fast I was going but it didn't feel like I was doing 67. My cluster only reads in km/h so I think that should help me out a bit. What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try living in my town, the regular speed limit is 20mph, except in front of the elementry school (during start and end times) it's 25mph, and yes everyone under the age of 50 speeds in this town including the chief of police.
Either way on subject Tweek said it best there isn't much you can do at this time and in Florida the law says the cop doesn't have to show their radar (just like you can refuse to let them search your car, only you can't hide behind a warrant, usually the same rules apply if they deny they lie), be careful next time and being in Florida get a radar detector before any other mod cops will pull you for the fun of it there. Your best plea is the i'm young and i'm dumb, since both tickets are close together you don't have to worry about them checking your record it'll be a month before the first actually makes it to the DMV to become official. You have to ignore shid sometimes, he can get a little excited, but he's right about the seat belt, regardless if your doing 35 or 85 you can die just the same (i've wrecked one time doing a hundred and came out with a seat belt rash, but the same type of car I drove was doing half my speed, wrecked, and the driver and passenger died) but they do save more lives than they cost. |
