I was just curious and I know it may be a stupid question but I think about this everytime I see the new Toyota's engine bays. I notice that most old Toyota cars(FWD) like the Celica have the exhaust side toward the front of the car and the intake side in the back. Most new Toyotas have the intake side in the front and exhaust in the back. Like the 1ZZ and 2ZZ, for example. The only new one off the top of my head that has the exhaust in the front is the 2AZ on the tC and Camry. I'm just curious about this. Does it make a difference? What's better/worse? Why?

It's a relatively new design... but if you think about it... mount the the 2JZ transverse and the intake is on the front also...
With the intake on the front... heat soak is reduced in the induction and exhaust heat is blown out the rear instead of into the intake. Makes much better sense from a performance standpoint... and I don't get why it took people so long to design it that way... (K20 Honda engines and Toyota 1ZZ/2ZZ) -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
