i dunno if anyone else has done this but i thought i would share.. i just took a small flat head screw driver, popped out the dome light lense, took sum candy apple red paint and put a couple coats on the smooth side.. then clear coated it and put it back in the dome light opening. the light was kinda pink, becuz i didnt put enough coats on.. i didnt have enough paint.. so today i bought more but i tinted the inside becuz i had a really nice finish on the other side and didnt wanna ruin it.. it turned out really well! i ended up with a nice solid red, much like neon underbody, but in the dome light! its pretty tight. i dont have pics since i dont have a digital camera anymore.. but its really easy to do

when i was first doing my dome light i made a series of 3 THC^3 leds all pointing downward and soldered them into a Ba9s base. when i opened the door it was like "damn that's allot of light".
the problem is, i think, that my resistor wasn't rated with a high enough wattage. it's resistance was good, but i think it couldn't disipate the heat so well. the light would always turn on, then a few seconds later it would turn off, then back on. because it stayed on for longer when running off the batttery. might try to re-wire that with a half watt resistor instead of a quarter. but anyway, i'm getting off topic. what i really mean to say is that you can probably wire up your own Ba9s LED fabrication with 3 leds (of varying color perhaps, as the translucent lens in the dome light will probably blend them all together a bit) and get a accented colored light that is still just as bright as (if not brighter than) the normal one. |
