My friend tim claims he can swap an auto to a manual trans no problem. My question is, do you think this is really gonna be all that difficult?

Also, I've been following west_minst's posts here on the boards. Very intelligent guy. Listen to him! I have a question for you, minst, if you are reading this.

Have you done any transmission work? Any auto to manual swaps? Is it cost-effective, or should I just sell the celica and get one with a manual transmission? I'd love to hear what you have to say about this. You know everything about the engines we can use, I'd like to know what you think about automatic transmission conversions, if anything.

Oh, and I'll most likely have an auto transmission from a 96 celica ST here for sale. I ran in to some money, and I think right now, given the fact that my car has an automatic transmission, this would be the best way to go. Any advice guys? Wish me luck. Keep up the good postings.

I have not done it myself, but we do it here with all cars.

Since you have a 7AFE, a 4AGE Trans should swap right in nicely.

The problem is finding the complete transmissions. Once you have one, thats it.

The only slight disadvantages is the ecu mapping. It is not optimise for manual trans.

You will need the clutch pedal, line, shift cables and so on like what you have in a manual.

It worths it. 5 gears is better than 3 or 4 auto gears and you can gear down while slowing down like in the formula1. I love it rolleyes.gif
