Hi folks.
A few of you guys here seem pretty interested in the beams motor. Well I am rebuilding one at the moment. I know quite a lot about these engines, as I have been researching for the last year or so, trying to find out information here and there. I have the motor in bits at the moment, my hands are tied until I get my bottom end bearings. So if you have any questions, or would like to see any pics etc, let me know. ![]() My motor has a port & polished head (Which was done by an unknown company in Japan) heat wrapped TOMs extractrors, Apexi intake, cusco paddle clutch, light weight cusco flywheel, balanced crank/rods/pistons/flywheel, and the cat has been replaced with a straight through pipe. Hopefully it will make in the region of 210-220 flywheel hp, or about 180-185 hp at the wheels. And BTW it will be going into a 1050kg MR2. ![]() This post has been edited by roman: Dec 7, 2005 - 2:56 AM |

QUOTE(crismillencolin @ Dec 19, 2005 - 8:35 PM) ![]() First of all, if you take a look over there <--------- You will notice that I'm not American. ![]() New Zealand is the land of Japanese hand me downs, probably 90% of the cars on our roads are jap imports. That we get really cheap, being so close to Japan. The 178hp engine is the gen 3 3sge, and is the amount of power that the car makes at the FLYWHEEL. approx. 15% of this power is lost through the transmission, as it takes power to turn the gears, run the pumps, alternator, etc. So when I say that I hope for 180 wheel hp, this would be about 210hp at the flywheel. ![]() Yes it is a lot of work for not a huge amount of power, but half of the point of this project is to increase my knowledge, and have a fun project to do. As well as the fact that the redtop has a broader spread of power thanks to the VVTI, so even if it made only 178hp, it would still be notably faster than a gen 3 engine. I wouldnt be surprised to see more than 180whp, but Im trying not to be too optimistic, as a lot of people tend to be, and end up very dissapointed when they get to the dyno.
