Need your help. I am considering purchasing Jspec3sge's (Ryan's) mint condition stock red engine hood from his 1994 ST (7AFE). From the pics, you can see it has no lining under the hood (just bare metal). Is this standard on STs? Both my GTs have thick lining under the hood. Doesn't this help keep the metal hood insulated/cooler after running the engine? I think it would be hard to "transplant" the lining from one hood to the other. Thanks.

It's the keep the heat from ruining the paint on the hood, but our engines don't get hot enough to require one. They just look like crap and generally look even worse with age. YOU GUYS ARE IGNORNANT! How many times does it have to be said that it is not for protection of the paint?! It is to smother an engine fire if it was ever to happen in the engine bay. You make it sound like if you don't have the lining on it then your paint will just melt away. If your car is going to get heat damage then it will be with our without the lining (trust me, there's an eclipse in our wholesale lot where I work that has heat damage on the paintfrom the turbo even through the lining.) It is not a paint protectant. Lol I guess I just don't understand how some people think car paint is so delicate, I remember a thread a long time ago where someone thought that the brush on their ice scraper would scratch the hell out of their paint and wanted like a super soft brush to brush snow off of the car. It takes a lot to mess up the paint of a car. i applaud this wholeheartedly. Anyway, does anyone kno how i would go about getting a replacement lining? -------------------- |
