i recently turboed my 7afe with tons of probs. finally getting everything right and it starts smoking under boost. but only if i boost for more than and few secs. the turbo was rebuilt less than 500 miles ago and my engine runs good out of boost no smoke. to me the smoke looks grey. I recently had my turbo blow the oil seals out and oil was everywhere in my intercooler piping. I have cleaned all of them and the intercooler. I also cleaned the intake manifold the best i could. would this have any thing to do with it? any other ideas?
Thanks Richard |

Same thing happened to me...I tried everything. The 7A-FE has sky-high oil pressure. You have to make the oil return line just the right length and angle. The turbo cartridge has to be perfectly facing up and down, meaning the oil inlet exactly at 12 o' clock and the oil drain exactly at 6 o' clock. That'll help the extreme smoking, but your oil seal will start failing eventually and you're going to start smoking again, little by little. You need a restrictor for the oil inlet. That's my case right now. This Sunday when I get to P.R., I am installing the restrictor and rebuilding the turbo.
