hood scoop, air flow for 3sgte Options

hey as some of u know i'm getting ready 2 swap the engine in my 96 celica, with a 3sgte one. should i use a intercooler kit or should i cut the hood and place a hood scoop, will the air flow still work good or should i go with the intercooler???help me out guys thanks

Of course without a fan it's not going to be as effective as a front mount. Heat soak is a major issue. But the Spal fan isn't your normal room fan. It's very effective. Presure2 do you have experience with the top mount? You talk about hot air negating any sort of cold air going into the engine bay... which is completely false. I find it amazing that you are such an expert on the subject without having any experience with it. I'm not saying the top mount is the best solution. But it is definately a valid option when done correctly. You can't deny all the st185 owners that don't even think about upgrading their intercooler because the amount of cooling they get with this combination is more than adequate for their current setup.

dodge, i always shaked my head and wondered how you could still be using that piece of crap top mount. i had mine on for a few weeks, and can tell you that even with some type of hood scoop and fan, that intercooler is just horrible. think about it, it sits on top of a hot valve cover and has hot boost going through it. its a horrible design. alltrac guys hate it too, but get away with it as long as they run low boost. i have seen alot of alltracs that are only at 8-10psi. if i had a stock alltrac, i would never run any more boost then that on that topmount.

its one of those things were, you dont know what your missing by using the topmount. if you got a proper intercooler setup, you would know what we mean.

its pointless to cut your stock hood, buy a scoop, buy a fan, pay to get the scoop molded to your hood and painted. you can get a fmic setup for next to nothing these days that will out perform the topmount a thousand times over.
