I looked in info/faq but can't find how many quarts of oil my 1.8 takes. If any one knows please post, thanks

(no I am not OVER filling, as the dipstick would indicate if I was..) I've been taught not to start them without the filter being full first. Without it, the car will start dry, and run that way for a second or two. Every time you change your oil, is it on a flat surface?
