QUOTE(Mynzeyes @ May 9, 2006 - 9:58 AM) QUOTE(jgreening @ May 9, 2006 - 8:26 AM) QUOTE(Mynzeyes @ May 8, 2006 - 10:19 AM) it's rare to see a 3sgte in a celica THAT'S RUNNING. I agree with everything you said except the above sentence. There are a number of us that have running swaps and, although getting the bugs out takes time and money, most are fairly reliable once sorted. it's a ratio. compared to people that have celicas w/ 3sgtes, the ones that are running PERFECTLY, with no bugs what-so-ever, like a stock car, are rare. most have things like speedo's not working, or vacuum problems, or bla bla bla. things that do not warrant a "running car". i should have specified that i meant a car that ran as if it were stock, with no problems, other than required maintenance, such as an oil change. as somone who has a perfectly good running swap, and as somone who has helped a lot of other swapers fix their cars, i can tell you my honest opinion. if you want a car where you never pop the hood open, and sometimes let the oil changed go too long. then a 3s swap is not for you. it really has nothing to do with the fact that its swaped or a 3sgte. this rule would apply to any High powered motor. turbo or NA. if you buy an evo, sti , fordV8, supra, etc.... you have to pop the hood once in a while, check your oil, make sure you IC piping didnt blow off, replace the clutch when it cant hold your power level any more, or in the extreme case, replace the motor when you pushed it too far with your mods. the problems you see people having with their swaps. all come from the fact that for 99% of people, this is their 1st time EVER installing a motor or working on a car. speedo problem, is an OLD issue from wiring harness work that was done by this guy Mike, a long time ago. these harneses get resold and the new owner has to fix a few wiring that they last guy didnt know how to. vac probllems, are an issue for people who didnt buy a clip and coulnt lable how everything goes. then they have to go back and fix everything.. ive owned my swap for 2yrs now. there was defitenly some work i had to do after i got it running to make things run perfectly.... but looking back, the only problems i had were for things i did wrong. i had my car "brake down" on me 2 times. once when my IC piping blew off because i used cheap clamps. and once when my axel fell out because i striped the bolts on the bracket that holds it. other then that, it alwasy takes me where i need to go, and has been my daily driver ever since.
