QUOTE (Pvc99gT @ Jul 8, 2003 - 4:07 PM)
thats what i want to do, but here is my dilemma. i know exactly how i want it and everything, but my buddy at the body shop is telling me not to do it. he says since it is different material bonded to each other, the fiberglass and metal of my hood, that even if it is put on perfectly he says the fiberglass will go all weird and warp or somethin and make the paint crack after a few months. he says he will do it if i really want him to, but he is advising against it. a guess part of the back story is that his bro did the same thing, got a scoop and molded it on, and since it was on his own car of course he was doin it perfect, and after like 7 months the paint hadnt cracked but you could see where it was going to crack. he had that on a chevy blazer, and dropped it 5.5" he says that is the reason it went to ****(suspension bein all bouncy and not cool), but his bro is the master and thinks it will get screwed up. so he told me if i dont want any problems that i should just see if i can get a custom hood made or get a CF hood. does anyone know why the fiberglass would go crazy like that or what??? i really really want the hood to be like totally custom, but if hes right it would really suck and i would have to get a CF hood later on and the vents would be wasted. with the vents im lookin at, that would be like $220 wasted, plus ruining my stock hood. can anyone explain to me what happened with the blazer hood and why it would or wouldnt happen on a celica hood. its a daily driver, he said it would be fine if it was just a show car, but not on a daily driver. kuya, i know you have experience with this kinda stuff, can you or anyone else give me a definitive answer on this? i like in chicago, if the weather would have anything to do with it. we go from super hot to super cold, if that would screw up the fiberglass enough. i just need to know ASAP cuz i gotta order this stuff or not order this stuff. and if this makes any difference, im lookin at an erbuni scoop (Celica WRC) and some M-roadster vents for the hood (any difference in the quality of extreme dimensions and team prototype? im guessing no, but there is a price difference, so i might as well ask)

OK... your friend is right in terms of it cracking, BUT this is if it isn't installed using the correct material. You CAN NOT just use bondo. There's a different type of bondo that needs to be used. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name.

As for the quality of the parts from the different shops, they're all pretty much the same bro.
