it's not only in america. don't think we're so pompus that it's only different here.
it's because there are so many forms of "football". canada is known to refer to it as "soccer" and "football" refers to their canadian form of american football. south africa also calls it soccer. and honestly, most english-speaking countries use both to refer to it. it really just depends. also, why does no one ever bust the chops of non-english speaking countries. how about in italy it's called "calcio". which comes from the word meaning "to kick". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_%28soccer%29_names read up. -------------------- |
