So I have a wideband (aem uego, 6 in 1) on the way and a Safc2 coming soon, while I have an idea of where I'll put the wideband....I havent the faintest idea of where to put the Safc2!
the red reprsents my choice of mounting location for the wideband. its in my feild of veiw without being too distracting and it stays below the topline of the dash so theres no legal problems. but what about the Safc2? one thought is with the bracket below the radio in the change cup, but i'm sort of fond of a dish for odds and ends. another though is in the glovebox or the armrest cubby, but i think visible is good since i'm new to using this. someone else suggested above the center vents, but that just screams STEAL MEE!!! and finally molding it into the space below the radio. i NEVER use the cupholder in there at all, but i'm not sure if i have the vertical room to do that. -------------------- |

so ive NEVER had any odd high pitched wine in the car, until today. i had finished installing the wideband and bam, whine.
at 1st i thought it was the wideband, but then i turned off the headunit so i could listen better. the noise of from the HU itself, whever its ON, not just when its playing music. so its coming through the speakers only when... the HU is on the guage is plugged into power and grounded (guage on) for power i used the cig lighter power or the hazards power, both are keyed to the ignition and on when the car is on. i just spent 45 minutes in my car with the doors closed and windows up, sweating like crazy. heres what ive found... the whine is NOT present when the guage is directly powered and grounded to the battery the whine IS presesnt when the guage is powered from the battery and grounded to any ground wire coming from the dash area around the stereo or the frame near the stereo. the whine IS present when the guage is grounded to the battery and powered out of the dash. the whine IS present when the guage is powered out of the dash and grounded to the frame i'm getting stumped here. is there something wrong with the guage thats making my speakers whine? what could i put inline with the guages power or ground to kill the whine? i was thinking a small cap for some reason would do it. but i'm not really an electrical engeneir, so i really dont know. i really need some input on this! its ear peircing high pitched, not loud but the high freq hurts the hell out of my ears and brain. it feels like my brain is gonna turn to liquid and drain out of my ears! 4.902kHz signal at .25V AC. my front speakers have 'super tweeters' which are very sensitive, they go all the way upto 70kHz anyone have any ideas on what i can wire in to kill the signal backfeeding from the guage? or anywhere else i can tap the power from for the guage thats switched to the ignition when the key is ON or ACC? -------------------- |
